Will Trump Declare a National Emergency Soon?

Will the Trump and House Border Wall Funding Impasse Lead to Trump Declaring a National Emergency Soon?

President Trump has already signaled multiple times that America faces a border security crisis right now and that failure of the Democrats to vote for border wall funding will force him to declare a national emergency.

Tuesday night President Trump made his factual case to the American people in an historic oval office address saying:

“In the last two years, ICE officers made 266,000 arrests of aliens with criminal records including those charged or convicted of 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes, and 4,000 violent killings. Over the years, thousands of Americans have been brutally killed by those who illegally entered our country and thousands more lives will be lost if we don’t act right now.”

But, Democrats in the House and Senate refuse to go along with president, downplaying the serious nature of the problems. For example, the cost of illegal drugs to America is $500 Billion a year. 90% of illegal drugs come over the unguarded border. President Trump is requesting a relatively small $5 Billion to fortify the wall and shut down 95% of illegal crossings.

The border wall and its funding seem like a no-brainer and a slam-dunk. Even the Democrats, who have supported $25 Billion for the wall funding only last February, refuse to protect America now.

This impasse seems like we have come to a stalemate. Will the president declare a national emergency allowing him to take presidential action without the funding from Congress? When can we expect such a national declaration?

Or, will the Democrats cave in at the last moment?

Will the Democrats in the House Fund the Border Wall this Month?

It is very unlikely that they will fund the border wall because they don’t want President Trump to deliver on one of his signature campaign promises and they want to maintain a climate of Trump resistance and American chaos (to the extent possible).

Unless Democrats get internal polling results that their Leftist base or their 2020 election prospects are fading, they will continue to oppose Trump.

Of course, from a tactical political point of view, millions of illegal immigrants are viewed by Democrats as a way to strengthen their future party membership. Illegal immigrants, who are poor, uneducated, and can’t read English, are more likely to become future members of the Democratic Party. They need a party that promotes a giant welfare state.

When Will President Trump Declare a National Emergency?

Most likely, Trump will give Democrats up until the end of the month to fund the border wall. After that, I think we can expect him to declare a national emergency under the National Emergencies Act at the beginning of February.

Under that act, the president has broad powers to declare a national emergency and take appropriate action to protect the nation.

Expect that the president might redirect $5.7 Billion from the current Pentagon budget of over $13 Billion for construction to build the wall. Of course, Democrats will use their typical strategy of taking the president to court. In the end, the Supreme Court, however, will likely weigh in on the side of the president.
