Mask Mandates – Do They Make Sense?

Mask Mandates – Now Vaccinated Americans Are Supposed to Wear Masks Again?

On the topic of masks and mask mandates, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have flip-flopped on masks! Is anyone really surprised? The CDC has advised vaccinated individuals to wear masks in areas where the number of cases has grown, likely from the spread of a newer variation of the virus known as the delta variant. [1]

Note that this mask push comes only about 11 weeks following their previous advice that vaccinated individuals no longer needed to wear masks. [2]

Are frequent changes to public announcements of mask mandates policies hurting the CDC’s creditability with the American public?

According to their explanation, “breakthrough” infections that are milder than infections associated with unvaccinated infections can still occur and be transmitted to others.

Of course, one selling point of getting a vaccination was to not only avoid getting the Covid virus, but also to avoid wearing the inconvenient and often annoying facial masks that many people simply dreaded wearing around town.

In fact, in one study, about 64% of Americans believed it was their “right” not to be inconvenienced by wearing a mask. Drilling down on the data, you might characterize this result as a combination of two factors – American individualism (or Americans’ personal sense of freedom) as well as many Americans finding masks to be just plain “uncomfortable.” [3]

Mask Mandates – Do They Give a False Sense of Security?

According to Iowa Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds, the CDC’s newest recommendation is “not grounded in reality or common sense.”

“I’m concerned that this guidance will be used as a vehicle to mandate masks in states and schools across the country …” Gov. Reynolds said.

The Epoch Times also reports that: Republican Gov. Doug Ducey from Arizona believes that health officials from “across the country have made it clear that the best protection against COVID-19 is the vaccine.” [4]

In this case, the argument is that mask mandates are not really protecting individuals much and they might be leading people to think that they can forego the vaccine alternative, which might be the “healthier” option for people at high risk of getting a serious case of the Covid virus. You might call this the “false sense of protection” argument.

But, the evidence goes even much further. Mask mandates might actually be ineffective and might even be harmful to one’s health. Let’s see some reasons why now.

Mask Mandates – Are They Effective?

For one thing, mask mandates have been used in many locations across America and the mask usage has not prevented a large number of infections, and in fact, have not prevented what some people believe is a so-called “pandemic.”

Some argue the Covid-19 Case Fatality Death Rate (or CDR for short) never reached a pandemic level because the Covid-19 CDR has not been as bad as the CFR of SARS-CoV of 10%, or the CFR of MERS-CoV of 34%, or the CFR of Ebola of 50%. [5]

Note that the term CFR is straight forward to understand. It’s the number of people who have died from a disease, divided by the total number of people diagnosed with the disease. If 100 people have died from a disease and 1,000 people have been diagnosed with the disease, the CFR is [100/1,000] or 10%. [5]

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome CoronaVirus 2 is known as SARS-CoV-2. It is very close to SARS-CoV and is also known as Covid 19, since it was first discovered in 2019.

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is also caused by a coronavirus (CoV), which is from the same group of viruses that can cause the common cold. MERS-CoV was first reported in Saudi Arabia. According to the Mayo Clinic, MERS-CoV was first reported in Saudi Arabia. [6]

According to the City Journal:

“Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on mask use, generally more reliable than observational studies, though not infallible, typically show that cloth and surgical masks offer little protection.” [7]

The City Journal goes on to say: “The only complete RCT for Covid-19 was also disappointing: a spring 2020 trial in Denmark showed a protective effect statistically indistinguishable from zero.”

So, it appears from these studies that mask mandates are at best a waste of time and effort. Plus, they are a a major source of inconvenience to most people and businesses with little, if any, measurable positive impact on our health.

Mask Mandates – Are They Healthy?

It’s bad enough if masks mandates are ineffective, but it’s even worse than that. They can be harmful to individuals. According to the Washington Post they can cause persistent facial rashes and headaches. In fact, in Japan in one study, mask wearers using surgical masks were four times more likely to get headaches over a control group. In Germany, in a study of school children, greater than 50% reported headaches. [7]

In a New York Post story, the newspaper explained that “many dentists had observed an increase in problems such as cavities and gingivitis that they attributed to mask wearing.” [7]

Plus, fiber inhalation and environmental plastic pollution can also appear to be associated with mask wearing. It turns out that most surgical masks are replete with loose fibers. [7]

For these reasons and more, the bottom line is that mask mandates might have known health risks and therefore should not be encouraged.

Vaccine Mandates – Do They Violate Religious Freedom?

Another issue in this debate over mask mandates and vaccine mandates is religious freedom.

According to Liberty Counsel, because the various vaccines are only approved for experimental and investigational use, “these shots cannot be mandated or administered without the free and full consent of the individual …” . Plus, the medications are not fully licensed by the FDA. The legal authority for this fact is the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) Law. [8]

Americans are Constitutionally and legally protected from being forced to take vaccines under the above conditions.

They should not be forced or required to take a vaccine against their religious, moral, or medical beliefs and freedom.

Real World Socialism – Understand the Top Political Issue of Our Day

Dr. Lameiro correctly predicted in early 2019 that socialism would be the #1 political issue in 2020, and he was right!

Real World Socialism, Dr. Lameiro’s sixth and most popular book (available on Amazon and through other booksellers), correctly discusses many of the battles we are witnessing in 2021 between socialism and freedom. Importantly, Real World Socialism presents the main powerful reasons why freedom, free markets, and capitalism are far superior to socialism.

Real World Socialism is a comprehensive, tour de force of the history of socialism, including the many variations and names it has taken on over the centuries, as well as how socialism has failed miserably in both theory and practice. It also highlights the reasons socialists argue for socialist planning and policies, and why those arguments collapse in the real world.

Real World Socialism is a perfect gift for high school and college students that have to put up with Marxist and socialist teachers and professors, attempting to indoctrinate them with socialist and communist ideas. It’s also a great book for you to read to understand America today and how to help America survive the Biden-Harris-Democratic (Socialist) Party pushing America toward unwanted socialism.
